2023 Genesis G90 Review

The 2023 Genesis G90 offers uncompromising luxury with its refined redesign. It’s comfortable, quiet, and supremely luxurious, giving an exceptional alternative to full-size luxury sedans from established German brands. With its sophisticated technology and lavish attention to detail, the G90 offers an unrivalled level of sophistication and comfort that you won’t find anywhere else. Experience the luxury for yourself and see why the 2023 Genesis G90 is the ultimate choice for discerning drivers.

The 2023 G90 offers two configurations, both of which feature all-wheel drive. Our test vehicle was the more luxurious, starting at an MSRP of approximately $100,000 (including destination). This model boasts unparalleled sophistication, featuring a 48-volt mild-hybrid system with an electrically driven supercharger, air suspension, rear-wheel steering, powered rear seats with massage function, and a top-of-the-range Bang & Olufsen 3D premium stereo, providing the ultimate in luxury. With an MSRP beginning around $90,000, the base model offers incredible value and advanced technology.

The G90 driving experience is best described with one word: serene. From the sensuous air suspension that glides over bumps and utility covers to the smooth-as-silk steering that lacks any sense of feedback—the G90 will leave you feeling calm and relaxed while behind the wheel. It carries the robust feel of a full-size luxury sedan but doesn’t compromise nimbleness as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class often does in exchange for weight. It truly is an experience like no other.

The G90’s upgraded drivetrain provides ample power when you depress the accelerator pedal in Comfort mode — with even more punch when you shift to Sport mode. Accelerator response is punchy in Sport, and full-throttle acceleration is quick, with transmission kick downs happening swiftly. In Eco mode, the accelerator pedal response is more gradual but still comfortable and tolerable.

Experience the power of the G90 with its enhanced mild-hybrid and supercharged drivetrain. The twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V-6 engine delivers 409 horsepower and 405 pounds-feet of torque—an increase of 34 hp and 14 pounds-feet compared to the base G90. This maintenance-free power gives enough reserve power at highway speeds to launch you forward easily, yet it does not overwhelm you with an overpowering wave of acceleration. For those concerned about efficiency, the G90’s drivetrain is EPA-rated at 17/24/20 mpg city/highway/combined and runs on premium fuel. Experience the perfect balance of power and efficiency with the G90 and its improved drivetrain.

The G90’s interior is impeccably finished with standard Nappa leather seating surfaces, matte-wood trim and a luxe suede-style headliner. Fit and finish are unquestionable of the highest calibre, offering an exceptional experience suitable for a six-figure luxury sedan. Although the silver-coloured buttons and controls cause legibility issues in bright lighting conditions, they are more easily seen and read at night. The visibility of the touchscreen for the climate-control system is also improved when the sun is not shining directly on it. All in all, the G90’s interior is bound to impress.

The multimedia system features a robust 12.3-inch display with touch and console knob controllers for easy navigation. While voice commands work efficiently for inputting a navigation destination, the touchscreen provides a convenient way to interact with the system. The console controller and touchscreen make navigating the screen menus effortless and enjoyable.

Visibility from the driver’s seat is good, and the standard 360-degree camera system provides an excellent view of what’s around you to supplement natural visibility. Unfortunately, you may miss out on the image displayed on the standard head-up display when wearing polarized sunglasses.

Backseat accommodations in this vehicle provide a wealthy and comfortable ride experience. The power-adjustable outer seats, media controls and massage feature ensure your passengers are always satisfied. Stretch-out space for the legs, a reclining backrest and power sunshades add to the luxurious atmosphere. Rear-seat power mirrors provide added utility, but please be aware that the large floor hump takes up middle-seat foot space and is best suited for three passengers.

With no price advantage to provide a buffer, the 2023 G90 stands up to its competitors on its own merits. This full-size luxury sedan won’t need any excuses from you; its features speak for themselves. It’s no surprise why it’s so sought-after, delivering a comprehensive package in a premium package. So for those considering a luxury sedan, the G90 can provide a compelling offering.

Even though the G90 from Genesis may not have the kind of ‘cachet’ that traditional luxury brands have built up over the decades, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not worth considering. In our reviews, we take into account factors such as design, engineering and performance, but we understand that consumers also take into account more intangible factors as they search for their dream car. While Genesis may not have this cachet yet, it will come in time if they continue to build vehicles with the same quality as the G90.
